New BMW 3 Series: this is what it could look like
The new line-up will include the CLAR platform for combustion versions and will have Neue Klasse architecture for the electric variant.

On sale on the international markets since 2018, the current generation BMW 3 Series is on course to soon be retired. Proof of this comes from the brand itself, which is working intensively on its successor and has already started testing the first prototypes on the streets of Europe. The cars are already circulating with production bodywork and, although heavily camouflaged, they preview important details of the final car.
Based on the most recent images, the Russian website Kolesa has drawn up renderings revealing what the final design of the next 3 Series could look like. From the outset, it's worth emphasising that in the new generation, BMW will opt to separate the combustion saloon from the electric variant in terms of both look and platform. While the former will retain the well-known CLAR base and more conventional lines, the latter will be based on the Neue Klasse architecture and will have a design equally inspired by this philosophy.

The renderings preview the traditional petrol-powered 3 Series and reveal that BMW will opt for an evolutionary design approach, leaving bolder features for the electric equivalent. As a result, the saloon will take inspiration from its 5 Series and X3 cousins and will focus heavily on aspects such as aggression and sportiness. The front end, for example, will keep the traditional long bonnet and emphasise the shape of the brand's typical grille.
On the sides, there will be power door handles, as in the brand's most recent launches, while at the rear the taillights will have a slimmer shape and an unprecedented light signature. The interior hasn't yet been spotted, but it certainly won't deviate from the standard of integrated screens for the instrument panel and entertainment system, as well as ambient lighting, a raised centre console with a rotary knob for gear selection, among others.

Mechanically, the current 2.0 turbo four-cylinder and 3.0 in-line six-cylinder engines will be retained. Depending on the market, they will receive adjustments to reduce emission levels and will gain mild-hybrid systems. The mighty M3 will not be immune to electrification either and will also be hybridised. However, expectations are that it will differ from the M5's super-heavy-duty plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Taking BMW's current timetable into account, everything indicates that the new generation 3 Series will hit the market in 2026. More details will be revealed before then. As of now, we expect production to continue at the Araquari plant in Santa Catarina.
